DO IT FOR ME

Jasmine was born to a mother who was living with HIV but by God’s grace was born HIV negative. Her beautiful mother, Lisha Harris, died in 1996, leaving behind 2 daughters, Tamara and Jasmine, ages 13 and 7. In high school, Jasmine became an HIV and AIDS peer educator through the Louisiana Department of Health and participated in several other advocacy and prevention programs in New Orleans.

During Jasmine’s freshman year of college at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN, she had a moment where she was sad and missing her mother. She was thinking of all of the milestones that her mother was not alive to enjoy or guide her through. With tears in her eyes, Jasmine had a conversation with God saying, “God, I would like to honor my mother’s life and share her story to help others.” Within a couple of days, Jasmine was awakened from her sleep and clearly heard the words, “DO IT FOR ME.” Jasmine got up, found a piece of loose-leaf paper and a pencil to quickly write these words down. Jasmine knew this was a powerful experience because she had never experienced anything like that before. Although she did not know the entirety of what DO IT FOR ME would represent or entail, she knew that those words were God’s answer to her prayer. DO IT FOR ME has been evolving ever since…

Growing up in church, Jasmine noticed a void of Sex education and HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention. This created an opportunity for DO IT FOR ME to fill this void. DO IT FOR ME has conducted and participated in several workshops, presentations, and health fairs at churches throughout New Orleans and surrounding areas, affirming individuals through God’s Word, sharing a message of love and forgiveness, while creating HIV and AIDS awareness and empowering individuals to make healthy life choices.
